A symbol of imagination and novelty, this one-of-a-kind garden has been designed as an open-air exhibition hall using urban and industrial wastes by Nek Chand, a former Road Inspector in Chandigarh who started the garden secretly in 1957. He recycled demolition materials into his vision of the divine kingdom of Sukrani. Hidden for 18 years before discovery in 1975, it had grown into a 12-acre complex of interlinked courtyards filled with hundreds of pottery-covered concrete sculptures of dancers, musicians, and animals. The Rock Garden is completely built of industrial and home waste — broken glass, bottles, bangles, china ware, discarded fluorescent tubes, clay, electrical waste and coal.
Visitor Reviews
“It is completely made of raw and waste material. A great place to visit. The picturesque scenery is very tempting — a nice place where one can spend the whole day appreciating the beauty of the art.”
