Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh is a rain-fed reservoir at the foothills (Shivalik hills) of the Himalayas. The lake was planned and created by Le Corbusier in 1958 and had foreseen that the residents of the city would be drawn to it for the 'care of the body and spirit'. It is a vast garden stretching out in sections of land with roses as well as various medicinal trees and bushes with impressive backdrop and the tree-shaded walkway running along the lake is a walker's delight. The garden comprises seats and trails for working out. The atmosphere here is serene — a tranquil spot with picturesque waterfront. From December through February, one can see many species of aquatic birds from central Asia and Siberia. The lake offers various water sporting activities like sailing, water skiing, and yachting, and is venue of the Asian Rowing Championship.
