Chattbir Zoo (formally Mahendra Chaudhary Zoological Park) is a zoological park situated close to Zirakpur, about 20 km from Chandigarh on the Chandigarh-Zirakpur-Patiala route. Constructed in the 1970s, the zoo is home to a large variety of birds, mammals and reptiles — 369 mammals, 400 birds and 20 reptiles. The zoo was inaugurated on 13 April 1977 by then Governor of Punjab Mahendra Mohan Choudhry and is now the largest zoo in Northern India.
